Within hours of the new film's Playdate release, posts on Reddit and WatchUSeek were all asking the same question—"What's that black chronograph on Alan Ritchson's wrist?"

Despite the rapid camera cuts, the watch's three features were perfectly showcased: a 12-hour chronograph dial, a textured rubber strap, and a 50mm case.
Eagle-eyed viewers imported the still frame into Google Lens and ultimately identified it as a Megalith 8231M quartz chronograph.
Here's the evidence they released (all quotes have been slightly edited for clarity):
"It's supposedly a Megalith 8231M chronograph; well, it does look very similar, especially the texture on the rubber strap."
"Are we sure? I thought it would be much more expensive."
"That's what they say, and when you crop the arm and then Google the watch and compare—the letters, the arrows—it really looks exactly the same. Also a 50mm case diameter. No problem. Although (!) I thought it would be more expensive… but he's playing an ordinary father, unassuming, low-key, and discreet. Sounds reasonable."
What's the consensus? The prop master chose a $50 quartz watch instead of a four-figure luxury brand because the character needed to be understated. An overly flashy Rolex Submariner would have given away his identity.
Screenwriters have consistently used watches to portray character traits: Bond's Omega represents precision, while Tony Stark's Urwerk signifies his status as a genius billionaire.
This time, the requirement was the opposite—an everyday watch, something everyone could use, something 99% of the audience would overlook… but it still needed to withstand the test of a chase scene.
Thus, a 50mm resin strap chronograph was born. It possesses both softness and resilience, and a screw-down crown: robust, legible, and photogenic, especially since this watch series is "stand strong."

Sometimes, a watch doesn't need to be as expensive as a Honda to make it on screen—it just needs to fit the story.
Thanks to all the detectives on the forum who recognized this 8231M—you made our week much more enjoyable.
